New project - AS2R (April's fools)

After a lot of careful deliberation and internal squabbling, we are excited to finally announce Another Sonic 2 Remake!

The blue blur has returned for his second adventure again!
Sonic 2 was special to many people, and we have a soft spot for the second part of a bangin’ series. We are using all of our development and production experience to craft a rad remake of an awesome game.
Now, our experience revolves around isolation and exploration in Metroidvania adventures. Some elements that we think Sonic should have explored in his glory days.
It’s the time to revisit Planet Mobius the way it was supposed to.

Expect ever more zones by the time AS2R reaches a home console near you.

Gain new abilities and allies, who will help you reach new zones. Find the super secretly hidden Chaos Emeralds to unleash Sonic’s ultimate power.
With abilities, items, and powerups from modern Sonic games (and the classics) you’ll make Dr. Robotnik cry like a Metroid fan at E3.

Everyone’s favourite abilities all come back in one game.
Hope you’re ready for some Werehog action!

We can already hear you thinking, “Why is there so much pink and cyan? And what’s up with the shades?” Easy. Our goal was to remind all of our Sonic fans just how cool he used to be, and what better way than hopping into our Delorean to go back to the 80’s? In the age of neon chrome, there is no cooler mascot than Sonic himself. So rad!

But what about speed? Isn’t Sonic always about speed?
We’re happy to announce that we were able to replicate the mysterious and vague technology of Blast Processing, making Sonic move as fast as your 68k CPU can handle.

It’s not as OP as it looks, we swear.

Even better, Speed Booster is the first upgrade you find, so you’ll be shinesparking through Emerald Hill in seconds! No seriously, you’ll get to the end in roughly eight seconds. We didn’t change the level design at all.

Our reasoning behind this is that with the inclusion of Metroidvania elements, we had to completely remove goal signs, bosses, and acts. Instead, Zones will be merged together as one giant map, seamlessly transitioned with a fade to black. You won’t even know you’re entering the next Zone until you’re there!

Every pixel is handcrafted to look just like the original game.

Chemical Plant Zone is back in all it’s glory! We felt so attuned to this level in particular, so we didn’t change anything. Everything will be exactly where you remember it! We couldn’t hope to possibly expand upon the masterful level design that SEGA introduced in the original game.

Cyan and pink are so rad, we had to use them everywhere.

Sonic can’t equip a Power Suit, so oxygen will be limited. Gotta go fast!

We even added a new area: Distributed Distribution. Here, big metal tubez let you teleport to previous areas. A concept we had never experimented with before. Ever. It’s so bad!

Robotnik also has new tricks. After the events of Sonic 1, he realized that turning animals into machines didn’t work in small scale. So he invested in bio engineering. After all, bioweapons are the future.

The entire AS2R team is motivated to keep creating cool stuff and is very excited to bring a completely new retro experience to homes across the globe. We’re confident this game will be the bomb. And who knows... Maybe we’ll make a living making real games someday.

Why does every April fools game always sound so bad ass. I didn't even know I wanted this until now.

Great idea! Then maybe Sega can hire you, license a certain other franchise and then some bounty hunter can finally get a release that she could be proud of.

Come on Nintendo! I'm desperate to spend my money on AM2R! Let it see the light of day on WiiU/3DS/Switch!

Dude, if you intended to actually make this? I would probably pay you for it. I LOVE Metroidvanias, which you've shown immense skill with. And I actually like Sonic characters. ... And Sega would probably hire you, or at least license it from you.

I would love it if every april's fools thing didn't have a load of comments saying just that it's april's fools and negating the chance anyone would have taken it seriously and told their friends about it.

Man, i miss seeing your monthly-ish updates....I feel sorry for what Nintendo did to you. That is not how you should treat your fans... AM2R was fantastic though and I can not thank you enough for what you did and your talents with it. I loved that game and I will cherish it for the rest of my life. Thank you
